Educational Welfare and Safeguarding

Reigate Priory School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share in the commitment.

This means that we have a Child Protection Policy and the necessary systems and procedures in place. Reigate schools 181 1

Reigate Priory School Safeguarding Statement - Child Friendly

There exists within school, a structure which complies with the Surrey County Council guidelines for Child Protection. All staff, Governors and volunteers have received appropriate safeguarding training with several staff members recognised as qualified Designated Safeguarding Leaders (DSLs). Should a disclosure be made then appropriate procedures will be implemented with contact to necessary agencies being made.

Sometimes the school may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

If you are concerned about a child’s welfare, please record your concern, and any observations or conversation heard, and report to one of the DSLs as soon as possible the same day. Do NOT conduct your own investigation.

If your concerns relate to the actions or behaviour of a member of staff (which could suggest that s/he is unsuitable to work with children) then you should report this to one of the DSLs in confidence, who will refer the matter to the Headteacher (or the Chair of Governors if the concern relates to the Headteacher) – who will consider what action to take.

If you need to talk about or share a specific Child Protection concern, you can either make an appointment with a DSL via school and its usual communication channels or by emailing dsl@reigate-priory.surrey.sch.uk. All communications are in confidence and you will receive a response from one of the school's DSLs.
