Developing True Thinking

Children perform reasoning, judgement and creativity at the appropriate level for their stage of development, within a structured and caring environment.

A wide variety of appropriate teaching strategies and learning styles, from whole class ‘chalk and talk’, small group and paired work, to programmes of study for individual children.

A creative, skill based curriculum to foster deep understanding, develop secure knowledge and further a love of life long, independent learning.

Traditional subject areas are studied as termly or half-termly topics, allowing children to make links, transfer skills and gain a more detailed appreciation of a subject.

Learning activities appeal to all children and are underpinned by the tenets of Every Child Matters.

Discrete subjects are taught on occasions when no curricular content exists.

Children are generally taught in mixed ability class groupings, with all children studying the same area, but with the work created to match their abilities. Year Teams group children by ability for maths ‘sets’ when the children work with their peers from other classes.

Literacy groups are set across the year and given work according to ability.

‘Special Needs’ applies to both ends of the spectrum. The most able children are also catered for at the planning stage and we ensure work is suited to their ability.
