Update on Covid - 19 04/03/20

Dear Parents and Carers
I am writing to update you on the school’s current position and response to Coronavirus. I appreciate with the large amount of media coverage you may have worries and I want to reassure you that we are taking the situation seriously whilst trying to prevent any undue alarm. It is important for the children that we remain calm and work together as a school community to follow the national guidance.
Update
For your information:
- In addition to the usual cleaning routine, an extra disinfecting schedule has been put in place for all high contact areas including door handles, light switches, handrails, keyboards and touch screens etc.
- All classrooms with sinks have anti-bacterial soap and paper towels, those without have sanitiser gel available.
- Through class teaching, year group and whole school assemblies, children are being taught about and reminded of the need for regular handwashing and good personal and inter-personal hygiene, including avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Tissues are available for children with ‘Catch it, Bin it, Kill it’ posters visible throughout the school
- As this is an evolving matter, the school remains in contact with Surrey County Council and Public Health England to ensure its response meets current guidance – we will endeavour to keep you up to date should any changes arise.
The advice to us from Public Health England and Surrey County Council remains the same and is as follows:
1) Should a suspected case be confirmed in a childcare or educational setting, there is no need to close the setting or send other learners or staff home.
2) Even if there is a confirmed case in a childcare or educational setting, in most cases, closure of the childcare or education setting will be unnecessary and advice would be provided by Public Health England.
Residentials
At this time, both the Year 4 PGL Windmill Hill residential and the Year 5 Eschweiler Exchange will happen as planned. This has been confirmed by Surrey County Council but can change as this is a constantly evolving situation. We will of course, keep those families involved in these residentials up to date should this current position change.
How You Can Help
- If your child demonstrates flu like symptoms and you are concerned, please keep them at home and contact NHS 111.
- Talk to your child about their personal and inter-personal hygiene and the importance of maintaining it at school.
- Communicate with the school if your child as recently visited an area highlighted by Public Health England as high risk.
- Please advise the school if your child has any known allergies to either soap or hand sanitisers.
- Be mindful of media and news and their appropriateness for children’s level of understanding this will help ensure your child does not become unduly worried.
- If you are able to provide your own child with a pocket pack of tissues or hand sanitiser AND/OR donate a box or two of tissues, then that would be greatly appreciated. Any donations can be brought into class by your child or handed to Mrs Blay at School Reception.
